Bay View

South Dartmouth, Massachusetts

Floor Plan Sketch

Bay View is a coastal family compound shaped by light and Buzzards Bay. The ensemble gathers a five-bedroom main house, a garage with a guest suite above, and a pool house with a pool. A covered walk ties the house to the garage and frames a crushed seashell arrival court. Careful siting preserves long views and sets a quiet green court under mature oaks. From the drive, the composition shows balanced gambrel profiles with dormers resting on fieldstone chimneys. Cedar shingles and crisp white trim root the architecture in New England and catch the bay’s reflected light. Inside, primary rooms face the water. A central hall opens to a generous kitchen and a dining room sized for gatherings. Broad porches wrap the south and west edges, blurring the line between inside and out.

The guest suite offers family and friends a private perch with a clear horizon. Craft defines the rooms. Beadboard ceilings and tailored millwork keep interiors warm and bright. The primary bedroom sits under a soft barrel vault and opens to a balcony that frames tide and sky. The kitchen’s coffered ceiling and long island support cooking, conversation, and the rhythm of shared meals. Durability guides the envelope. Cedar and stone with painted mahogany stand up to salt air. Deep eaves and shaded glazing temper sun and breeze, while operable windows draw cross ventilation. Native plantings knit building, lawn, and shore. Bay View welcomes generations to gather by the bay.
