Contemporary Music Hall and Theater

The project is sited to take advantage of the views of the Sudbury River and nearby Pollinator Meadow. The Music Hall captures the views through a two-story glass curtainwall, capturing the night sky during performances, allowing students to perform below the stars. Tunable acoustic panels and draperies transform the sound quality within the space for a variety of ensembles and audience sizes. Given that the Theater is used primarily for teaching, learning, and rehearsing, daylighting was a primary goal of the space. The Theater opens to the Pollinator Meadow through a series of glass curtainwalls, providing natural light and views during non-performance hours. The Theater contains dynamic seating arrangements on the ground and second floor, allowing for a wide range of performance types. The space also includes three Juliette Balconies with removable railings, providing access for two-story set props. The cutting-edge theater infrastructure includes a high-performance catwalk with a range of lighting, audio, and technology systems. This provides students with a holistic production education, from main stage to back-of-house.
